Mission Main public housing development opens.

(March) Architect: George Robinson. It is located at 43 Smith Street. The Boston Housing Authority dislocates at least 679 families to make way for construction of 38 [12-BG, 13-Heath] three-story brick buildings. Initially, priority for living in the development is given to non-Boston residents who come to work in the Fore River Shipyard in Quincy. The complex is renovated in 2002.* (1,023)
